You’ve come to the realization that you want to change your life. You want to be more sophisticated, upscale, classy. Now what? Change is hard. So where do you begin? Leveling-up to a life of affluence and sophistication can be daunting, especially if you weren’t brought up in that mindset. Below we will discuss ten things you can do to change your life in a year.
The first item that you need to adopt to change your life in a year is to have gratitude daily.
Begin and end each day with gratitude. I highly recommend keeping a gratitude journal. Each morning as you have your coffee or tea, make a list of all the things in your life that you are grateful for. As you end each day, write down ten things that you were grateful for during your day. When we have a mindset of gratefulness, we attract more to be grateful for.
Embrace being alone. A woman who has embraced being alone is a very powerful woman. An appreciation of being alone allows you to have people in your life that you want in your life; people who add value to your life. A woman who can embrace being alone can accomplish anything.
Reinvent yourself. This is a chance for you to become whoever and whatever you want to become. You can become the woman you’ve only dreamt about. Change your style. Get a new haircut or hair color. Get your nails done. Write a book. Go on that trip. Change your name, if you want.
Minimize contact with people who don’t add value or positive energy to your life. Sometimes there are people in your life that literally drain the energy out of you, ridicule you for the person you want to be or are trying to become, don’t support the person you’re trying to become, or don’t understand your personal journey. It’s okay to set boundaries with those people or completely cut contact. Even family members can fall into this category.
Spend less time in front of screens; tv, computer, Ipad, phone. The more time you spend in front of screens, the less time you have to up-level your life. Netflix is fine once in a while, but not day in and day out. You’ll never get where you want to go by losing yourself in a screen.
Set goals, commit to achieving them. This is one I’ve talked about before. Sophisticated and affluent women set goals. As a sophisticated woman, I set weekly, monthly, yearly, and five year goals for myself. You don’t have to know how you’re going to accomplish all those goals at this point. You just have to have goals. You can’t create a sophisticated life without them. Once your goals are set, think of them as promises to yourself. We don’t break our promises as sophisticated women. We keep our promises as if they are a binding contract. It’s okay if you need to make adjustments to your goals, especially those long-term goals; but we don’t give up on our goals.
Move your body and sweat every day. Sophisticated women understand that their health is a priority. Moving your body and sweating every day is good for your mental health and wellbeing, as well as your physical health. Pick an activity you enjoy and do it every day.
Cultivate new skills. Sophisticated by definition means having, revealing, or proceeding from a great deal of worldly experience and knowledge of fashion and culture. Sophisticated women pride themselves on constantly learning new things. Pick something you’ve always wanted to do or learn and just go for it. Take a cooking class, golf lessons, horseback riding, wine sommelier, or ballroom dancing lessons. “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Use mistakes as learning opportunities. We all make mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up about them. Don’t use them as an excuse to quit. We learn more from mistakes than we ever do from our wins.
Celebrate your wins. It doesn’t matter if they’re big or small. Celebrate them all. Life is too short to wait for the big wins to celebrate. A sophisticated woman celebrates her wins. She knows it’s important to celebrate it all. It’s not just about celebrating the huge goals. It’s about celebrating all the small goals on the way to the big goal too. Pop the champagne, splurge on a nice dinner, buy the dress, buy the shoes, go out with friends. Just celebrate!
